The Annual Coffin Races
In the 1800’s Emma Crawford, a young woman seeking the “cure” from tuberculosis came to Manitou Springs. Sadly, she passed away. Before passing, she asked her fiancé to bury her on top of Red Mountain. Her wish was honored but after years of rain and harsh weather conditions, Emma’s remains slid down the mountain. So in our Manitou way we celebrate her life with the annual Coffin Races in October. A little weird? Yes. Fun? Yes.
Ahnn...enjoying one of our Pink Piggies.
